Guest Designer Di Garling

We're thrilled to have the super talented Di Garling, winner of our March Challenge, with us today!

Hi there! My name is Di Garling and I am from Australia. I own and run a scrapbook shop in Australia where I teach both scrapbooking and cardmaking and also do most of the design work. I am Design Team Coordinator for 2 Crafty Chipboard, as well as “Scrap Around the World” & “Heart & Soul” challenge blogs. All of this keeps me extremely busy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My style is ever evolving, I adore color and texture, I love mixed media and I always pay great attention to detail. I hope you enjoy my work.

I have used this adorable picture of my new baby Granddaughter, Mia. The challenge this month is to include some handmade flowers. I have made five different flowers for my layout and I have also included a couple of store-bought flowers as well.

The orange flower (right) I made using cardstock, a Spellbinders die and some stamens for the center. I think the secret to making it look like a purchased flower was to use lots of layers, curling the edges, and then adding the stamens for a touch of realism.

For this cluster I have made three different flowers. First, the orange flower on the left, is created with another Spellbinders die. I curled all the petals, but on this one I added touches of glue to the stamens, as well as the middle, and then I sprinkled gold micro beads which naturally stuck to the glue. I was really happy with how this flower turned out.

The second flower I made in this cluster is the pink one, which I made by cutting out petals from pink paper and from pink netting. Next, I alternated the paper and netting petals to create the bloom. I thought the netting added a little something extra. Again I finished off the flower with a few stamens in the middle.

The third flower in this cluster (bottom pink) was simply made from a length of pink netting that I twisted in a circular fashion and simply stuck down onto a circle of cardstock, making sure that the card is not visible. Too easy!

The last handmade flower on my layout is this rose in the bottom corner. Again I used a Spellbinders die, this time with some orange cardstock. I inked the edges of the cardstock in a different shade of orange, glued it together and then rolled all the edges to make it look like a real rose. To finish it off, I wiped a bit of Stickles randomly over the edges for a bit of added sparkle.
I would like to thank Berry71Bleu for inviting me to be their guest!
I hope you have enjoyed my layout too.

*All of the chipboard on my layout, is from 2 Crafty Chipboard.*

I Wish for Peace by Cathi O'Neill

Hi, Cathi here with my layout for April. A beautiful soul in our family has just died after a brief but aggressive fight with pancreatic cancer. I needed to do something to remember him by and just loved this photo that had been shared on Facebook.  I wish for peace is meant in many ways, I wish for peace for Olly, peace in the hearts of all that loved him, though it may take a while for a true peace to be there as the grief is still fresh. Doing this layout helped me a lot and it was great to have time to remember fun conversations and great stories about my brother in law. He was my youngest's girls Godfather, they had a special bond with a shared interest in art. He was both the girls favorite uncle, a kid at heart, and he will be deeply missed.

This month we were challenged to add handmade flowers to our layouts. I chose to add two Bitty Blossoms from my favorite Spellbinder dies. I added pearls to the center of both and placed them in with my other flowers.

I also used two amazing pieces of chipboard from UmWow Studios. I absolutely love this one with the hands and it perfectly suits this layout. The papers, stamps and die cuts are from the 7 Dots Studio Cold Country paper, just beautiful!! Finally, I used the filmstrips and tags of Venice from Darkroom Door, as Olly loved travelling and his job was as a filmographer, again they just worked perfectly for this layout. The words are also from Darkroom Door and from 7 Dots Studio and I used many to describe him and things he loved to do. In the top of this closeup photo here you can also see a flair of a dandelion, again to me a perfect symbolism of how brief and fragile life is.

A sad layout, but one I am glad I did.

As tomorrow is the last day of this challenge, if you have a layout this month with a handmade flower in it,
I encourage you to enter it and share it with us!

Be Still and Listen by Mandy

Hello Friends!

Mandy here and today I'm sharing a layout featuring goodies from the design team sponsors "7 Dots Studio" papers and embellishments and "Um Wow Studio" chipboard embellishments.....I finished this project in a few hours....I was inspired to do a grunge boy layout using the supplies I had.  I wanted to make the handmade flowers simple since this was a "boy" theme.  I decided to use two different flower punches and out-lined the flowers with a black painters pen....VERY simple!

Here is a close-up of the little flower I added under the photo and outlined it with the painters pen...
I added some inks to the chipboard and background stencil work...
The two half circles on the layout are from a spool of ribbon.  I cut the circle in half and painted it with black ink and wrapped twine around the center....
You still have time to get your "handmade flower" project in!  Check out the details below:
