Guest Designer Fena

We are excited to welcome Guest Designer Fena, our August Challenge Winner, to the blog today!

Hello everyone, I am so thrilled and honored to be Guest Designer this month at Berry71Bleu. I would like to thank the entire team of Berry71bleu for this opportunity.

I am a mom to a 5 year old and wife to a wonderful husband who understands my passion for art. I am basically a Bachelor in Engineering (in computers) by profession and into software development and testing. Yes, I am a Techie!! But I always had that creative bent towards arts and crafts since childhood and when I found this magical world of scrapbooking I found my creative outlet.

I am passionately in love with mixed media and art journaling is my soul. I don’t have a definite style yet but I see that I do mixed media layouts incorporating paints, flowers, embellishments and stamping.

The challenge theme this month is by Marivic and it is to make a project telling about the ‘THINGS WE LOVE.’ For me, the list is endless, but Art has always been my passion and it’s one thing that I would never part with. When I am not doing layouts I am always on my laptop or tablet sipping a cup of coffee and yeah I do love chocolates (lol!!).

So in my layout, for my photo I choose to incorporate all the things I love. I took the photo myself as I couldn’t find any photo that depicts exactly what I love. There’s coffee, paint brushes, a tablet and dictionary pages and few chocolates.

I used the 7 Dots Studio Nature Walk patterned paper.

I have made by background with lots of mediums consisting of stencils, paints and gesso. Then went on adding embellishments and flowers.

It was really a fun challenge and hope I have inspired you with this lovely theme. You can find more details on my blog thepapermemories.blogspot.com.

Thanks for visiting!!

Strawberry Cheesecake by Mandy

Hello my crafty friends!

Mandy here and it's my turn to share my September "Things We Love" design team project  with you.

This month's project was so much fun and I knew exactly what I was going to create when I saw the beautiful tag Marivic provided from her Zeus and Zoe Etsy shop(click here)...Thank you Marivic!  There were so many ideas that came to mind when I saw the challenge inspiration....I love music, art, nature, Navajo art, butterflies, bike riding, turquoise, opaque gemstones and minerals, beading, Victorian architecture, stained glass windows, gardening, flowers, Foxglove, swimming, collecting vintage items, thrift shops, perfume bottles, painting, cooking, baking, chicken and waffles, hiking, vintage lace, and much, much more......
and one thing I truly love is all kinds of sweets. The list goes on!!
Who doesn't love creamy, rich, delicious cheesecake?????
and with strawberries on top to boot!!!

I added some chipboard keys and gems from this month's design team sponsor:

Thank you!

Here is a close up of the beautiful tag(with the cheesecake image) Marivic provided and is nestled in among flowers and goodies.... The beautiful paper I used is from the previous design team sponsor 7Dots Studio.

There seems to be a big trend with using various circles on layouts so I decided to add some sequins, paillettes, and punch work circles....I also added circle stenciling using texture paste....I cut out circles from old paper I never used with textured stencil work on it.  The larger circles show the textured details.  I added gesso to many of the paillettes....finishing them with paints and misting....

I started the background work with stamping and stenciling. I finished off by layering and layering circles and gems and lastly adding drips of mists and paints throughout.....

You still have a little bit of time to make a project telling us about the things that you love, no matter what it is, we'd love to know!

You can take photos and add to your project or you can journal about the things you love.
Most of the time we never get to talk about ourselves, so this month we will talk about all the lovely things we love.

We would love to see what you create so please join our challenge!

And thank you for your support of the "Berry71Bleu" blog and design team!

Please follow the rule challenge. Link below.

Love is Sweet by Denise van Deventer

Hello Everyone

Welcome to Friday! I hope that your week has been a good one, so far!

It's my turn, Denise, to share my page for this month's challenge, Things we Love.

I created a little board of the things that I love! ;-)

This just gives you a little taste of the things I love!

Here is the layout that I created about one of those loves - Love is Sweet! (A little play on words)

Marivic had sent me a gorgeous "cake" themed tag and so it was perfect for this challenge.
Here is a close-up of the tag from the Zeus and Zoe etsy shop.

I also used some blingy bits from Molossi.

I created the background with one of my favourite stencils, gesso and watercolouring.  I used the Vintage Chic Collection papers from Heidi Swapp.

I did the journalling around the page and this is what it says:

"Admittedly, I have a bit of a sweet tooth and I really do love a decadent cake or pudding.  When one can treat oneself, with a little something sweet, why absolutely not?! My thoughts are that life can be bitter enough and that a little treat can sweeten any day.  Marie Antoinette was a woman after my own heart!!!" ;-)

You still have some time to play along, so we hope that you will show us some of your loves too!

Kimberly and Carole....Guest Designers

Where to start?   I'm married to my jr high school sweetheart for 30yrs. We have three amazing boys,  two beautiful daughters in-laws, a grandson and 2 granddaughter.  My family is my world!
I've been crafting for 7years.  I started out with a cricut then expanded myself from there,I love to alter the unexpected.

I would consider myself a vintage Distress girl.   I love the vintage, and steampunk.

If I had to pick one color out of the crayon box and say it was me,  I'd pick red, because I have a firecracker personality. I love to make others happy and engergized. If I were a scrappy embellishment I'd be a paper clip, because I tend to hold everything together for the people in my world.

it's Kimberly here I'm so honored to be asked to do a guest post. The challenge was to tell a story what you love , well I decided I would tell my creative love story nothing mussy ... Lol so I made a page with creative things I love ! I took some yummy vintage items from zeus and Zoe's etsy shop ... This was a fun and easy project to make I just pulled out some things I love like  beautiful paper. lace , burlap old vintage findings and of course coffee embellishments .  then I created my page  with all the fun layers. I had so much fun with this challenge hope to see you join in on this challenge !
Thank you for looking , Please stop by my blog for more fun inspiration

Carole- Canada

Bonjour! My name is Carole, I am from Québec, Canada.

I am a former Journalist and Newspaper Editor, now Freelance Writer/Author. I’m a people person, nature-loving, hippie-chick wanna-be!

I have been crafting for more than 35 yrs. I knit, crochet, sew, paint, draw, and have been paper crafting and creating multi-media art projects since 2000.

I am as passionate about music, literature and the arts as I am in my creative expression, which is constantly evolving.  Thank you for letting me share this artistic journey with you!

A Happy Place

When I saw this peg board at a thrift store I immediately knew I had to have it, a finished image of the 'altered version' popped into my mind instantly!

First I dismantled the piece, taking off the peg board and popping off the buttons on the cushioned front I left the yellowed ribbons in  place because I waned to use some Lindy's sprays to color the fabric and ribbons at the same time. Some of the colors I sprayed randomly were: , I then did a bit of stenciling across the fabric surface and added some white stripes for contrast. I repeated the process on the buttons, and once the piece was dry, I glued the buttons back in place.

I spray painted the black iron piece with white Krylon paint then proceeded to make a very light wash of antique white acrylic paint to apply to the natural wood frame since I still wanted the wood grain to show through the paint.

I discarded the window front from the framed area to the right of the piece and recycled some Prima packaging to use as a base for my favourite poem which I printed on a cardstock in a sepia tone before I fussy cut around the paragraphs. I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink and popped it up with dimensional glue dots on the packaging background.

I dug deep into my scrapbooking supplies to find a transparency that would compliment the colors I chose for the cushioned board, and I love how it all tied in together once I added some antique tatting lace to the top and bottom of the peg board section and finished the entire pece off with pretty Prima flowers and a couple of bead dangles.

The piece serves to showcase some of the things that I love and that bring me to a "Happy Place": pictures of my granddaughter, some lovely quotes that I enjoy reading, an old business card reminding me how much I loved my former job as Newspaper Editor and Pablo Neruda's (my favorite poet) poetry, which always brings me back to my center of gravity.

Thank you for taking a moment to share some meaningful tidbits of my life with me!

IF YOU FORGET ME
I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.
