Guest Designer Riikka Kovasin

We're thrilled to have the super talented Riikka Kovasin with us today! You will find Riikka's work in the Pop and Colours #2 Workshop.

Hi there! My name is Riikka Kovasin. I'm a Finnish scrapbooker with a passion for mixed media. My goal is to have my fingers inked on a weekly basis. I live in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, together with my lovely, supportive husband and our two sweet daughters. My family is my constant source of inspiration and also the main subject on my pages. I'm happiest when I can get messy with different paint media and create a piece of memory keeping at the same time! What could be more perfect?!

I've been doing pages about four years now but discovered my passion for inks, paints and layering about a year and a half ago. I love creating my own backgrounds, leaving my own hand print in the layouts and making them "my own." For me, the process of creating is equally important as the end result. Besides layouts I also love to create mini albums, cards and canvases.

I was so surprised and honored when Shirel asked me to join the fantastically talented guests of Pop and Colors 2 Workshop! I love to share my process and I teach workshops on regular basis in Finland. I'm currently designing for 7 Dots Studio, 3rd Eye Craft, Canvas Corp Group, Mixed Media Place and two challenge sites - CSI and Scrap Around The World. I'm also part of the design team of three publications - Scrap365, Craft Stamper and PaperHaus.

I'm excited to guest design here at Berry71Blue! Thank you so much for having me! If you'd like to visit me, my blog is Paperiliitin (Paperclip) at paperiliitin.blogspot.com. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Please, come and say hi!

I used some Tattered Angels Mistable papers to create the white flowers. First I punched out some scalloped circles and stapled them together. Then I cut the petals with scissors. I also made some pink roses using embossing powders and a silicone mold.

Here is more information about the April Challenge:

This month we challenge you to create a project using handmade flowers!

There must be at least ONE homemade flower on your project.
This challenge is not limited to a scrapbook page - think canvas, home decor, headbands, anything your creative mind can dream up! There are hundreds of flower tutorials out there for flowers made out of paper, felt, cloth, twine, burlap, coffee filters, etc. For links to all of the flower tutorials pictured above, and many more, see Tracey's Pintrest page here.

Pop and Colours Workshop #1 - Art of Background
Six weeks of workshops with step-by-step detailed examples and videos! Do you like to play with inks? Dirty hands, paint in the hair and stains on the apron don’t scare you? Then this workshop is for you! Whatever your style, learn how to create backgrounds very personal using the techniques presented in this workshop! I requested internationally famous guests who will share their secrets for making scrapbook pages from A to Z. Each week two different step-by-step (videos or photos and written explanations) will be presented. Each week, icing on the cake, sample pages created by the various artists using each technique will be shared. These examples will show you that the techniques are adaptable to all styles! The workshop will focus on scrapbooking pages, but the techniques are obviously suitable for other media (Art Journal, Project Life, mini-album, canvas Mixed Media etc.).
There is no time limit to subscribe to the workshop and it will be available for a period of one year from the beginning of the workshop (ie 18 October 2014).
