Guest Designer Joyce Lawrence!

Greetings from Joyce in Southern California!

I came on the scrapbooking scene three years ago when I came into possession of some old family vintage photos. I wanted to preserve them and tell my family’s stories through those photographs. My intention was to only scrap those photos and put them away for future generations enjoyment. But then, I came down with the hoarding ailment so many of us have caught, and I started stalking art stores for supplies, joined an online monthly scrapbooking kit club where it exposed me to the terminology, trends, manufacturers, and found inspiration from online challenge sites just like Berry71Bleu. I immediately became smitten with this art form because it allowed me to incorporate all my previous skills of drawing, watercolor painting, bead work, home and apparel arts, and a legitimate excuse to buy more art supplies. My style? Well, I will leave that up to those of you that view my work. I currently design for Blue Fern Studios, and you can find me on my blog at http://scrapsofelegance.blogspot.com.

I’m excited to be a guest designer here and to share with you my take on the January "One Little Word" Challenge. This challenge inspired me to work in my long neglected art journal and to create my own background paper using a patterned chipboard piece as a stencil. I chose the word "Embrace" and am looking forward to the transformation in me in 2014.

Thank you Joyce for sharing your beautiful work with us! You have until the end of the day to upload your project for the January Challenge and we really look forward to seeing what you create!

Balance by Cathi O'Neill

Hello, Cathi here with my first official post as a member of the Berry71Bleu design team! I am so honored Marivic chose me to be among this talented group of women! There has been so much incredible inspiration all month and here is my contribution for the "One Little Word" challenge for January!

My word, like Dana, is Balance! I had an amazing year last year going from one challenge blog design team to ten design teams and guest design spots for challenge blogs, manufacturers and stores. I have been beyond lucky and am so grateful for that! But I definitely took on too much with all my excitement of being asked. This year I want to remember that I need to balance my life. I need to remember those two little girls in this photo and make sure they are my priority. I need to have a creative outlet and enjoy that too, but deadlines and projects can't be so many that they make me miss out on watching my girls grow and being with them doing fun things!! I think I am learning that balance now, and I will strive to keep that balance better this year.

The papers I used are Fabscraps Shabbylicious and the paper is piled up with tons of embellishments and flowers, including that gorgeous tag (the two birds on the tag reminded me of my two girls!) from Marivic, Prima and Manor House flowers and a gorgeous Prima metal chandelier. I used my Prima damask stencil and my newly won Prima script stamp, along with a Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst spray for my background work.

I stitched around my photo for a bit of extra detail and distressed and layered my background papers with Black Soot Distress Ink. The title balance is done with Thickers.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look!!

Patience By Kay

Good morning fellow scrappers!  Kay here with my interpretation of this month's challenge set by fellow DT member Denise.  My little word for 2014 is 'Patience'.  Personally, I feel that I need patience in all aspects of my life.  At work, at home even in my crafting.

This page is the start of me practicing 'Patience'.  I have many mixed media items in my stash but I rarely actually do a page with mixed media simply because I don't have the patience for it!  Sometimes, you have to allow time for the media to dry or set & I'm just too impatient to wait!  Yes, even with the use of a heat gun I still feel that I'm losing precious minutes & seconds blowing hot air onto my page!

Tsk, tsk...so yes.  Patience...patience is the key--I feel that I need to slow down, take time to 'smell the flowers' as they say.  I seem to constantly be rushing through life & I think I'm missing out on some really important things.

Here are a few more closeups.
My cluster is full of many different colored flowers.  I've also embedded a bit of woven net ribbon here and there.  A bit of different colored tulle was tucked underneath the cluster--tulle always seems to soften a page in my opinion.
This lovely tag was made by our very own Marivic.  For someone like me who apparently seems to lack patience--these tags are excellent for completing a page in no-time.  The tags are so well embellished that I add it & voila!  Half my page is already done!  :-)
My journaling is stored in this scroll which has become my fave way of storing my thoughts.  Here you can also see some of the several mediums I used on this page.  There's some gesso, mists in different colors, stamping & a bit of texture paste.

So what's your little word for 2014?

"Imagine"

Happy Monday Everyone!

It's Mandy (kashagray5) here and I'm sharing my first design team project with "Berry71bleu".  I'm thrilled to be a part of this awesome team!

My "creatively speaking" little word for "2014" is Imagine.......

Imagination is key for creating unique, whimsical, magical projects........Through imagination you can experiment and have the creative power to take your vision and transform it to a one of a kind creation.....

I added a quote to my creation from "Ralph Waldo Emerson" -

In art, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can imagine -

So hopefully, for me "2014" will full of some new creative ideas!
I used the "Martha Stewart" circular punch on this creation....I added some texture past using a "Finnabair" Prima stencil.....I went over that with some "Tim Holtz" distress ink..

Here is a close up of the gorgeous tag made by Marivic.

The image I used was in my scrappy stash for years....It's available on google, pinterest, etc.
I hope I inspired you to:

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!  You have until January 31st to create something and upload it here!
Hugs, Mandy
