Rose Gift Box with Dana

Hi Berry71Blue fans! Dana here with you sharing my project for the Berry71Bleu August Challenge, which is all about TEXTILES. The fabulously talented Norma is hosting the challenge this month and she loves adding texture to all her projects. Using fabric is one of the easiest ways add interesting texture and Norma frequently mixes remnants of fabric in between layers of paper, paints and inks, instantly adding depth to any project. Norma has challenged us to get creative with our projects by adding textiles!

I started with a plain kraft box and applied a coat of Faber-Castell Gesso. Once that was dry, I rubbed a Watermelon Gelato around the edges of the box and blended it with my finger to spread the color. I cut a couple of roses from Inkido patterned paper and adhered them to the box.  I added some depth to my fussy cut roses with Faber-Castell Art GRIP® Aquarelles: RED (#770110) watercolor pencils and some shine to select areas with Faber-Castell Glaze. I used Brown Stamper's Big Brush Pen with my favorite background stamps to add some romantic script to my box. I then tinted some molding paste with a Gold Gelato and used that with a stencil to add another layer of text to my box.

I tied a Zeus and Zoe key to the lid of my box and paired that with a Scrapiniec keyhole chipboard piece that I painted with white acrylic paint and distressed with ink. I added twine, sheer ribbon and a pretty felt and lace trim to the top of my box and some flowers and leaves.

The large red rose show above started as a fabric flower. I dipped the flower in several layers of plaster and then painted it red. If you'd like to try making your own plaster flowers, I share my tutorial HERE. I finished my box with a stamped tag.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you will join the August Challenge! Any kind of fabric, twine, lace or ribbons will work, just grab some TEXTILES and set your creativity free!
