Once Upon a Time by Denise van Deventer

Hello Everyone

It's Denise here today with a mixed media page that I created for Mandy's challenge Mix it Up with Mixed Media here.

I created a vintage page of my grandparents. I got this photo from my Aunt at Christmas time and really wanted to use it, as it was so very special! My grandparents were so young here and don't they make a handsome couple!!

I had some embossed papers leftover from my Zeus and Zoe DT kit which I stuck down to the card stock and then added some book page strips across these.  I then gessoed everything and then laid a stencil down and added some spray ink. I added some pen lines and stamping to complete the background.

I had a beautiful, vintage tag from Marivic, which was the inspiration for this page, as the lady in the tag reminded me so much of my Gran when she was young. I also used a gorgeous Molossi chipboard title, a beautiful Manor House flower and the fabulous glass accent flower by Art-i-cake.

Initially I was a bit worried as to the colour combination, but in the end I was thrilled with how the colours all worked so nicely together.  The combination really added to the vintage feel.

The chipboard title from Molossi, I embossed with copper powder and it really did come out beautifully!

Well I hope this has inspired you to play along! We would really love to see your mixed media projects.

'Love My Life' Layout by Helen

Hello Ladies!  This post is much later than usual today as I have a line fault here & this is the first internet access I've had all day - the signal keeps dropping - very frustrating!  Well here I am sharing my project for the month, using Scrap FX chipboard & Manor House Creations flowers, both available from the Zeus& Zoe Etsy store HERE.

I used lots of Scrap FX chipboard here - firstly for my TITLE and also the chicken wire you see above - left in it's raw state - and the maroon 'filigree square' piece on top of it that I actually cut in half to use on either side of the photo.

Don't be afraid to customise your chipboard to suit your needs, I've done that with every piece here.  The chicken wire comes in a much larger piece that I cut down into 4 pieces and only used 2 here (on either side of the photo).   Doing this will make your chipboard go a long way and save your money!

On this side you can just see bits of the chicken wire peeking out from under the flowers.  The filigree square that I cut in half I inked up then embossed/ uteed for a shiny, glittery effect.

Here you can see one of the gorgeous Manor House Creations 'Vintage' Flowers I used - just inked up a bit for some extra depth.

Here I inked up the cream flower using pink, blue & yellow inks & inked up the pink one with some beige, before cutting it in half so it appears to be 'coming out' from under the photo. (Another way to save money but don't cut straight down the centre, make sure to keep the stamens intact by cutting to the side so one 'half' is slightly bigger than the other).

Here I inked the blue flower lightly using pale green ink - see how a couple of the stamens have absorbed the colour!  These paper flowers take the inks really well so are completely alterable or perfect to use as is.

I customised my title too - it started off all as one long saying 'Love of my Life' which I changed to 'Love my Life' by cutting off the 'of' and splitting the 'Love' from the  'My Life'.  My daughter adores Summer & really does live her life to the full & enjoy our hot weather.

Hope you're all doing well & having a wonderful weekend!!
Thanks for stopping by!
Why not pop on over to the Etsy store & have yourself
a little shop?
I'll have this layout up on my blog next week so pop in HERE
if you want to check the supplies list :)
